Local Priorities Shoplifting Message

I wanted to provide you an update regarding Shoplifting, which members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey.

What started as a quick “hello” to the lovely staff at Morrisons SW19 turned into an unexpected episode of… “Supermarket Sweep: Police Edition” 🎬

Officers were mid-chat with store security when a man suddenly bolted out the back fire exit like he was auditioning for the Olympics. No basket. No receipt. No goodbye. Just legs and meat (allegedly). 🏃‍♂️🍖💨

Security shouted, “He’s taken meat!” — and just like that, the foot chase was ON.
Forget steak – this was high-speed steaks.

👟💨 Officers caught up with him at Dundonald Tram Stop, where he was stopped and searched.
🥩 meat found (a mystery worthy of Scooby-Doo).
🌿 But… he was carrying a small bag of cannabis, which was seized.

Now here’s the best bit…
🚶‍♂️ Our suspect had to do the dreaded Walk of Shame all the way back to Morrisons — past the fruit & veg, past customers picking up their weekend bits, and straight through aisle 6 like nothing happened.

But wait — plot twist! 📢

While returning, officers spotted two more young men nearby acting more suspicious than a pineapple in the frozen aisle. They were stopped and searched too. Luckily for them, they had nothing illegal on them — just a side order of nervous energy. 😅

So in summary…

🥇 1 speedy getaway attempt
🚶‍♂️ 1 dramatic walk back to the scene
🌿 1 bag of cannabis seized
🔍 3 stop & searches
🍖 0 sausages, steaks or burgers recovered
💼 1 day in the life of Wimbledon police

Moral of the story?
Stealing meat is never a rare occurrence… but getting caught is well done. 😉
Also: If you’re going to run from police, maybe don’t carry cannabis. Or just… don’t run.
